About

IMG_2476.jpg

Growing up between the genteel world of New England academia and the hardcore grit of 1980s New York City, with roots in Germany and the Middle East, Salwa is a true woman of the world.

As a child actor and singer, she graduated from a prestigious private school at age 16, and went on to earn degrees in English from Barnard College and NYU.

Salwa’s extraordinary life circumstances—her escape from a Christian cult, a mysterious illness that landed her in a wheelchair, becoming a single mother of three, and her reunion with her politically-exiled father and seven half-siblings—form the warp and weft of her own personal essays.

These experiences also make Salwa an empathetic listener and a true alchemist of words when it comes to weaving anyone’s unique story into a compelling book.
